Novena to the Holy Spirit
“Come, Holy Spirit. Fill the hearts of your faithful; and enkindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth Your Spirit, o Lord, and your faithful shall be created. And you will renew the face of the earth.”
Novena to the Holy Spirit
“Come, Holy Spirit. Fill the hearts of your faithful; and enkindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth Your Spirit, o Lord, and your faithful shall be created. And you will renew the face of the earth.”
The Holy Spirit was given to the disciples of Jesus, gathered in
the Upper Room with the Blessed Virgin Mary, to empower them to be “witnesses…
even to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8) The Holy Spirit makes us holy.
The Holy Spirit makes us one. The Holy Spirit sends us out to witness – by our
words and our actions – to the saving power of Jesus Christ.
In this Novena to the Holy Spirit, we join in prayer for a fresh outpouring of
the Holy Spirit in our Archdiocese, in our parishes and prayer groups, in our
families and in each of our lives. We are very much in need of the dynamic power
of the Holy Spirit if we are to be effective witnesses of God’s inestimable love
for the world.
The Opening Prayer and Closing Prayer for each day will be the same. The Closing
Prayer was composed by the Holy Father, Pope John Paul II, in 1998.

land I gave your ancestors; you shall be my people, and I will be your God.”

the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of all
I told you’.”
(Pause to reflect on God’s Word)

were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues,
and make bold proclamation as the Spirit prompted them.”

Scripture: Titus 3:3-8
“For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, deluded, slaves to various
desires and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful ourselves and hating
one another. But when the kindness and generous love of God our Savior appeared,
not because of any righteous deeds we had done but because of God’s mercy, God
saved us through the bath of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom God
poured out on us through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that we might be justified
by his grace and become heirs in hope of eternal life. This saying is
trustworthy.”
(Pause to reflect on God’s Word)
Response
O God, renew in us the graces of the Holy Spirit, Whom we received in Baptism
and with Whom we were sealed in Confirmation, so that we might know all the joy
of rebirth as Your children.

different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but

the Spirit is given for the common good. One and the same Spirit produces all of
these, distributing them individually to each person.”
(Pause to reflect on God’s Word)

that, but we ourselves, who have the first-fruits of the Spirit, we also groan
within ourselves as we await for adoption, the redemption of our bodies. In the
same way, the Spirit too comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know
how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit itself intercedes with inexpressible
groanings.”

O God, search our hearts. By the power of the Holy Spirit, help us in every
