Our Work and Presence
Ministries and Xaverian Presence in the USA
We, Xaverian Missionaries, arrived in the United States of America in 1946. From the very beginning our goal has been mission animation and vocation promotion, basic formation and ongoing education. We provide theology studies, language courses, higher education, and other services to our missionaries around the world.
We are very much a part of the local church as we provide temporary help to parish churches and other agencies around our provincial house in Wayne (NJ), our Pre-novitiate house in Franklin (WI), Our Lady of Fatima Shrine in Holliston (Mass). In 2010, we concluded our ministries in Chicago, IL, where we ministered at St. Therese, Chinatown, and also held our theology studies at Catholic Theological Union. We also work with minorities and immigrants, on justice and peace issues, youth and adult groups.
Our Mission Service here include:
Mission Education:
All types of educational programs (at parishes, campuses... and at our
houses) for people of all ages (youth, adults, children) geared towards raising
and deepening
our Mission Spirituality and awareness, and inviting them to possible
mission-oriented actions. This is done also through
our Publications.
Vocation Animation:
Each of our local community is involved in
Vocation Animation inviting, supporting and welcoming and/or visiting young
adults who are exploring a possible mission Vocation. Also, being this one of
our main priorities, a Provincial Vocation Team is dedicated to this ministry
full-time.
Formation and Training for Mission:
Formation programs and opportunities are especially available at our
formation house in Franklin, WI (for College level students and Pre-Novitiate
program). We
strive to bring together and offer an integrated education that include academic
studies, pastoral experiences, human relationships and spiritual growth.
Cross-cultural Ministries
Being our Vocation Missionary, together with other organizations (Diocese) we strive to reach out and serve in cross-cultural situations, among the non-Christians and the poor.
Our Mission
As we - the US Province of the Xaverian Missionaries - following our Founder’s Charism, offer our contribution in the missionary responsibility of the US Church, maintaining our missionary and community identity, and take into account the gifts and skills of each one of us, we are committed to “witnessing and doing mission together.”
We feel that new missionary urgencies and concerns are constantly emerging.
Parish Ministries:
Although the Xaverian Missionaries do not staff parishes in the US, we do
offer our help to many local parish communities by being involved in liturgical, CCD programs, Justice and
Peace ministry, preaching retreats, etc.
Development and Support:
Projects and activities carried out together with friends, benefactors and
Mission Leagues that sustain us and missionaries abroad, and share with us the
same missionary spirit.
Ongoing Formation:
We welcome confreres for “sabbaticals” who intend to pursue theological update studies or higher degrees, qualifications and specialization in view of a better competent and specialized mission service.
