Mission Banquet 2011: Celebration of “Mission Month”
On Oct. 7, at the beginning of the
Mission Month celebrated in the worldwide Church, the
Franklin community held its annual Mission Banquet at the Italian Community
Center in Milwaukee (see 72 photos
below) with some 350+ people attending, a great crowd indeed. Even this
year’s Mission Banquet included auction items, the Banquet Program booklet with
advertisers and sponsors, the Mission Award and the popular Raffle.
The Mission Award, which remembers a good friend of the
Xaverians in Milwaukee, Art Vander Heyden, was given to a “young couple”
of 65 years of marriage, Joe and Eleanore Slowik, who
deserve our recognition for the many years of volunteering in the many
activities at Xavier Knoll since our early beginnings. A beautiful rendition of
“Sunrise Sunset” crowned the Award Ceremony, and a few tears at
the end of the presentation.
During the entire Banquet, following a tradition of the last few years, there
was a continuous PowerPoint presentation of slides from our missions, much
appreciated by all, and some photos of past and present activities of friends of
the Xaverians in Milwaukee.
The Xaverian Missionaries sincerely thank the Xaverian Advisory Board for
organizing this successful event on behalf of the many needs of the missionaries
throughout the world, as well as the Banquet contributors, underwriters,
sponsors, auction items donors and the many who have contributed with their time
and effort. Thanks a lot.
