OCTOBER 2010
TAs the National Catholic Youth Ministry Conference comes closer,
you may be talking up the enormous global impact of the Catholic
Church and what that means for youth and young adults today. Youth
and young adult ministry needs to help young people rooted in their
parish community with a reach that goes worldwide. The local and
global aspects of faith come together.
World Mission Sunday, which we just celebrated, is really a rallying
point for awareness, prayer and action everyday of the year. For
this reason we wanted to share with you our monthly e-newsletter
called NO BORDERS. We bring online resources that help equip young
people for their global role as Catholics.
If you would like to receive NO BORDERS just click Join our mailing
list on the side panel. Feel free to forward it to the youth and
young adults you minister to.
Fr. Rocco Puopolo, Xaverian Missionary and Director of the
Africa
Faith and Justice Network, offers tools for youth and young adult
ministry, as well as campus ministry in order to invite young people
to advocate for change in Africa in tangible ways.

Stories of missionaries make great material in all kinds of
activities, prayer and liturgy. They are women and men of courage
and faith who leave culture and homeland in the sole desire to share
the hope of Christ worldwide in all of the marvelous ways the Church
does today. Some have paid the price of their lives in order to do
so. Here are a couple of links to check out:

Catholic Relief Services and the Church are convinced that today,
southern Sudan presents a rare opportunity to relieve staggering
human suffering before it happens. Unfamiliar in the U.S., peace-building is tangible and critical in southern Sudan where war
has shattered traditional ways of resolving conflict. It touches
every aspect of Catholic spiritual and material life, but would you
recognize your Church in southern Sudan? Here re some materials to
bring the plight of Sudan home.

The Holy Father recently published his message for World Mission
Sunday (October 24,2010). He says that Catholics, in every parish,
are to "make Jesus visible, to make the Redeemer's face shine in
every corner of the earth before the generations, especially before
the youth of every continent."
In this issue of the Xaverian Mission Newsletter we want to show you
how the "face of Christ" is being made visible, in our work from
Japan with photos of the Easter Celebration of Frs. Denny Wahyudi
and Renato Filippini, to the 33 years of Fr. Orru in Indonesia, and
from Africa (17 countries celebrate their independence in 2010) to
the United States with Fr. Victor Mosele reflecting on his 50 years
of missionary priesthood.

In a world of six billion people, it only takes one to change
your life. This film is an engaging look of what happens to the
dynamics of hospitality and welcome in a nation of immigrants in a
post 9/11 world. This film is an excellent window through which to
take a long unflinching look at the state of the immigration system
today. This film discussion guide includes a synopsis, connections
to Catholic social teaching themes, discussion questions, links and
more.
